Who
is Richard Granat?
Richard S.
Granat is a Lehigh University, and
Columbia University Law School graduate who also holds a Masters degree in Organizational Development
from the University of Pennsylvania. He
is the Founder and CEO of MyLawyer.com, Inc and a recognized expert on the concept of "pro se"
representation, its limits
and its potential for providing access to the legal system. He is the author of
"How to Do Your Own Divorce in MD, VA, and DC," and other self-help law
publications.
He is a proponent of increasing access to the legal system through the
active use of Internet technology, expert legal systems, the creative use
of paralegals, community legal education, "unbundled
legal services," alternative dispute settlement methods, no-fault
insurance, and court reform and simplification.
Richard is a member of the Maryland and District of Columbia Bar, Co-Chair of the ABA Task Force on
Lawyers
Serving Society Through Technology and Section Liaison to the ABA
Committee on the Delivery of Legal Services Richard was previously the President and Dean of the Philadelphia Institute for Paralegal Training, the
nation's first paralegal educational institution where he pioneered the role of the legal
assistant as a new career role within the legal profession. Mr. Granat also served
as a member of the initial working group at the U.S. Office of Economic
Opportunity that created the National Legal Services Program.
